What age group is this workshop aimed at?
Any age! The pace of modern living can affect us whatever stage of life we are at. Sadly more and more young people are being affected. However we have aimed the content of the day roughly to the 30 to 60 age group, but it really applies to all. When we are younger the body is in a better place to adapt as we get older it can struggle.
But the demands on a 30 year old are just not the same when you get to 50 plus, so how can you help us all?
Whilst the demands of life do change as we age the way our bodies cope remains the same.
For example, a few case studies:
‘Ann’ a 35 year old working in London, and mother of 2 who mysteriously gained weight over the past year and begun to experience panic attacks on the commute into work
‘Jane’ a 52 year old teacher, whose both children had just left home for University and had begun to struggle with menopausal symptoms and just felt exhausted every day.
‘Tanya’ a 30 year old single solicitor, a high achiever with out of control PMS symptoms who couldn’t function properly without a constant infusion of diet coke.
These ladies lives and symptoms are all very different yet the underlying cause the same, their bodies were out of balance, more specifically their adrenal glands (once tested) were struggling from on-going stress. Once this happens it can affect anyone of our body’s systems
What are my adrenal glands?
They are 2 small glands that sit on top of the kidneys and are crucial to our health, mood and well being. They are what help us cope with unusual challenges and stress, protecting our bodies from damage. We will look at how they work and sometimes struggle with modern life during the workshop. I believe such an understanding is so important, in helping us take control of our health and vitality.
But surely stress is not all bad? I love to be busy and enjoy my hectic lifestyle.
Yes stress is not bad it itself, it’s a natural response of the body. In fact without some stress our lives would become dull and boring! The key is balance a stressful response needs to be followed by a relaxation response. Rather like pushing down on the accelerator on a car, to rev the car engine for a specific purpose like to over take, you then ease back on the accelerator, the engine is designed to cope with this. If on the other hand you drive with your foot always hovering on the accelerator revving up the engine for not real reason say at the red traffic lights when you are stationary, the engine over years will be affected. So it is with the body. The answer is balance and this is what we look at in the workshop……..how we can all achieve some balance in our lives.
Why is the workshop for women only?
Although men and women have the same basic physiology when it comes to the stress response we feel that a woman faces many extra burdens/challenges through her life. We are ‘wired’ differently emotionally and tend to put other peoples needs first, before our own both at work and at home. Many women end up in stressful jobs with a lot of responsibility but very little power such as nursing and professional women still often feel that they need to work harder to achieve the same accolades as their male colleagues. Being mothers also adds many demands; we tend to be on the alert ready to respond to our child’s needs what ever the age and it doesn’t really end when they reach 18! We are constantly ‘juggling’; we need different ‘pause buttons’ to keep our lives in balance and energy levels up. The workshop will help you find your own ‘pause buttons’.
Why is breathing included? I have been breathing perfectly
well all my life
How are you breathing at this moment? Modern living does affect our breathing and it tends to go unnoticed. Most people take shallow breaths that just enter the very top of their lungs, yet our lungs reach to the bottom of our rib cage. They are there to be fully utilised. The prime energy of the body is the breath and if we are not breathing at our optimum we are limiting our life force and the amount of energy that can reach every part of our body.
I do Yoga and practice the Yoga Breathing Techniques my teacher has taught me is that the same?
What Judith teaches is also Yoga – Kriya Yoga. It is intended to clear all the energy blocks that prevent us experiencing union with universal energy. Most people breathe at a very restricted level and what Judith teaches is to breathe as we all did babies – until we learned to restrict our breath. This, of course, enhances our lives at every level, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.
Opening up our breathing opens up our lives!
